New to the scene is this friendly and upbeat class held in Heeley on Monday nights. Set up by several of the society’s long-term regulars, Steel City Swing accommodates improvers 7·30–8·15 and beginners 8·30–9·15, with social dancing in between. A class is £4, or £3 for concessions.

There are classes suitable for beginner-, improver- and intermediate-level swing dancers held by Sue Freeman at St. Vincent’s CMS on Solly Street every Wednesday evening. The beginners’ class starts at 7·30, improvers’ at 8·15, intermediates’ at 9·30, and these are interspersed and followerd by freestyle periods in which you can practise your social dancing. There’s also a fairly cheap bar. A single lesson costs £5, two or three lessons will set you back £6 (concessions save a pound).

A wonderful class on Wednesday evenings, this one is free and there's always a brilliant live band too. It starts at 8.30 and is well worth checking out. Society members regularly attend this class and it's suitable for beginners. Details and updates are on their facebook page, which also has some good food offers!
Balboa is a form of swing that can be danced to very fast music and in a very small space. Kathy is running these classes every Thursday throughout October, November and the beginning of November, the teachers being Harry and Svetlana from Leeds, Barry from Nottingham and Michael from Leeds. A single class is £5, both classes costs £6 (a pound less for concessions). Beginners 8pm, improvers 9pm.

It all ends with a bit of social dancing to practise your new moves and is generally followed by a trip to the pub.
